In Memoriam Francis G, Founder of A.A. Basel English
It is with great sadness that the AA Basel Community has learned of the recent death of Francis G, the founder of English speaking AA in Basel. Francis set up the first weekly English speaking meeting of AA in 1987. This was immediately popular not only with the international ‘expat’ community but also with tourists, business travellers and English speaking local Swiss AAs. Francis was a kind and loving person; a true English gentleman who had time for people and a desire to help others achieve sobriety. He moved from Basel to Cyprus in the late 1990s where he continued to be an active member of AA. As a result of Francis’ initial actions and ongoing commitment, English Speaking AA in Basel has grown to become a thriving and dynamic local fellowship dedicated to helping people recover from alcoholism. Francis is survived by his wife Danielle and son Nicholas.
